What Is The Gospel?

The Righteous Shall Live By Faith

Romans 1:16-17
16 For I
am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.

What does the word Gospel mean? Well in the Greek it is the word εὐαγγέλιον (euangélion). It means good news. It referred to the messenger who brought back good news from a battle, declaring victory. The good news is God’s power. Christianity is not just a religion, it is God’s power. It is the power of God 1Cor 1:18. The good news is: God’s power to deliver anyone who comes to faith in Him. Why do people have a problem with it then? Because it just seems too simple.

Faith is not a “leap into the dark”, it is believing what God says is true.

Verse 17 is God’s full picture. The righteousness of God is revealed. His promise to bring people back into a right relationship with Him. Psalm 98:2-3 the Lord has made known His salvation… a relationship sustained by faith from beginning to end. By faith and faith alone. That is the Gospel, it is not a religion.

Who is Jesus? He is God’s amazingly good news. Who are you banking your eternity on? Jesus I hope. Are you ashamed? Luke 9:26 Why? It is the only good news that saves.
